Best Wedding Ideas From Our Own Brides

We are approaching our fifth season as fabulous “Day of Wedding” coordinators! Michelene, Sara, and I have seen some amazing ideas in all of those weddings and we want to share some of the best ones with you.

Get your notebook ready and pick your favorites!

#1. Small Cake and Cupcakes are The Thing.

We’ve had many brides choose to do a cookie table, cupcakes, and a small cake. The small cake is usually just for the bride and groom. Sometimes the couple will share it with their bridal party, other times they will save it. This is an individual choice of course but many times we see too much leftover cake when the plan is for everyone to have cake (and eat it too).

#2. Sweetheart Tables

We’ve seen a trend of moving away from long bridal tables. Having a sweetheart table for just the bride and groom gives the new couple a chance to be close during dinner, and gives the bridal party the opportunity to sit with spouses or family who may not be in the wedding party. Bonus: When flowers drape down the sides of the sweetheart table, it’s particularly beautiful.

#3. Flowers from Costco and Sam’s Club

We’re not kidding. We see many brides choose to do their own table decor (we can help with this) and leave the boutonnieres and bouquets to the pros. This cuts down on the flower bill and can save substantial dollars. We’ve yet to hear complaints about these flowers and honestly, they’re beautiful.

#4. Handmade, special items

Many family members are choosing to make something special to be a part of the wedding. In this case, Kristen’s father made the wedding card box, and this lovely ring holder that flower girl Kiley walked down the aisle with.

#5. An Explanation of the Pittsburgh Cookie Table

Not everyone knows what a cookie table is! If your guests are not from Pittsburgh, they will be delighted but semi clueless. This sign has begun to appear at most of our wedding cookie tables. What a great idea!

There are some very clever ways to let your guests know where to sit. We love the creativity of our brides (and sometimes the venue!) and their willingness to come up with fun and new ways of doing this! We love this vintage look!

7. Creative Invitations

Yes, you can use various online printing companies and even your local printer for your wedding invitation. But why not something really special? This invitation was found on Etsy and the guests really loved it! Search Pinterest or the Etsy site for some awesome ideas!

8. The bride is not always wearing white or ivory.

New colors have begun to show up in bridal dresses. Jessica chose a dazzling yellow dress for her wedding. Online, we’ve noticed this trend and we have a wedding soon where the bride has chosen a different color for her dress. (stay tuned!) It’s ok to be different- we love it!!

If you have any special ideas you’ve seen at a wedding, or if you are a creative DIY bride, we’d love to see your photos! Email Joanne at joannejamiscain@gmail.com and share your ideas!
