Meet the Owner of KDE!
Hi, my name is Joanne Jamis Cain and I’m the owner of Katherine’s Daughter Events. I began my business in 2013 after years of dreaming about doing so. I love events and weddings!
How did I get started in events?
In 1994 I opened a small coffee shop in the heart of Sewickley, PA- Cappuccino City. This was before big name competitors came on the scene! We were very family oriented and welcomed children, parents, business people, you name it. I enjoyed meeting the locals, hosting music nights, and creating holiday events. I became involved with the Sewickley Chamber of Commerce and helped with events such as the Antiques Fair and the Christmas in the Village.
After that what happened?
When I sold my business in 2001, I went to work for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and was the first director of the newly renovated Schenley Park Visitor Center. It was a jewel in the park and my intern staff and I created the event rentals from the ground up. We literally wrote the book on event standards there and I’m very proud of that. It’s a wonderful place to hold an event!
Where did I really learn about weddings?
After I left the visitor center, I went to work at a religious institution where I planned hundreds of weddings, family events, and non profit fundraisers. This was literally where I learned all about good planning, vendor interface, working with multiple caterers, setting up the best floor plan designs, you name it.
What is my goal for the couples I work with?
Honestly, I just want them to enjoy their day! My assistant and I do everything in our power to make sure the day comes off smoothly. I am a big fan of listening and learning, and I have several sessions with the couple to ensure that I know all about their wishes and hopes.
My best advice for wedding couples?
Don’t go with vendors based on price alone- this is the biggest mistake people make! The best vendors have great reviews, respond within one or two days at most, and give you their utmost attention. I always respond to my couples, no matter what is going on. Negotiate with your vendors if you have to, but try to get the best ones. You won’t regret it.
